New ROS MF modes for 500 kHz Band

14 May, 2010

This week i have been worked in two modes for the experimentation in the 500 KHz Band.

If you click on “menu Mode” you can select the mode ROS MF where appear two new modes: ROS7 MF and ROS1 MF.

ROS7 enable to keep a quick QSO and ROS1 is for extreme QRP. Frequency for working with this modes is 502 KHz USB.

Features:
ROS7 MF: 128 characters/minute  BW: 100 Hz  S/N (2500Hz):  -26.7dB
ROS1 MF: 21 characters/minute   BW: 100 Hz    S/N: (2500Hz): -35.7dB

info

qsl  On 7  meg last night 2400 bst   had  qso  with  ve9dx  east coast  Canada , both using  ros / wide / 8  over  30 mins qso  , with  -NO- errors  apart  from my  live typing   … I would  say that  was the  first  long  error  free data   qso  with the  usa  on 7  I have  had since the   amtor -arq  fell  out  of  use .. and  then  I was using  250  watts  to the  vertical  Ae  (35 feet) …with  my  skanti  trp5000  marine  set ….  this time    only  20  watts  rf to the  Ae …from  the  ft897-d !

Thanks

Another great QSO between Europe and Cuba on 14103.

1 watt in both sides at 150 characters/minute.

Congratulations to Ivan and Jose Luis!

ROS frequencies are USB

10 May, 2010

ROS frequencies list on “menu Frequencies” are all USB.

Unless you have arranged a private conversation on a different frequency, you should transmit always on USB mode (included 7.055 MHz) if you want somebody can decode you.

TEST ON 502 KHz with 2.5 watts

4 May, 2010

Message transmitted by G0NBD with 2.5 watts using ROS1/500 was copied 100% at Paris by F5WK .  (633 kms. using  an antenna round  1/400  efficient in 500 Khz band)

Congratulations for the experiments.

FIRST QSO ON 500kHz USING ROS 30 April

1 May, 2010

From Graham, G0NBD:

First qso on 500 kHz using ros , G0NBD and G4WGT , initially using 500/16 and then eme , reducing tx power , the level that the eme mode started to fail was in technical terms ‘just silly’ reducing the tx to 3 watts carrier power then via a 20 dB attenuator down to 30 mW to a 35 ft top loaded Ae that needs round 50/75 watts to produce 100 mW erp , ie approx 500 : 1 reduction …….. reception 30 miles away by a similar Ae , then produced 100 % copy , depending on local noise level …

Later in the evening , M0BMU called G0NBD at 500/8 , a range of 200 miles , then follower at 100% qso over some 30 mins ending round 0010 local time , one final tx at 500/16 was also 100% decode , even in deep QSO , to the point of no audio from the speaker, the mode remained in lock and kept printing , each station running 100 watts.

Outstanding mode Jose !

73 – G ..

Congratulations for the experiments, Graham, although ROS EME was not designed for HF. ROS1/500 would be a better option in that case.

Which is the wideband avaiable for a 500Khz Band Rig? Would be possible use 2250 Hz in the 500Khz band?
